Transport for Londinium (TfL) has announced a concrete date for the beginning of the construction of the Piccadilly line extension to Baker Street. Starting on Sunday the first of February, the Piccadilly line will close entirely to acommodate for the works. This will make Finsbury Park and Cockfosters entirely inaccessible for the indefinite future.
Crossrail will also close to allow for a ‘general overhaul’ of the line; a dual-track system will be constructed, level boarding will be introduced, and an elevator will be installed at Bond Street for accessibility purposes, in order to allow for step-free access into and out of the station. However, TfL cited ‘logistical challenges’ regarding the elevator, as Bond Street is a very cramped station as well as a major interchange. As such, they are unable to guarantee that the elevator will be installed. If that is the case, it is suggested that disabled persons would need to use the side entrance at King’s Cross, which is relatively close to Bond Street and can be accessed by taking the Central line to Oxford Circus.
