Bakerloo Line Officially Opens

The Bakerloo line was officially opened earlier today. The line serves the as yet unnamed area surrounding Baker Street and runs north to south. It connects with Crossrail and the Waterloo & City line at Waterloo as well as the Jubilee line at Baker Street (which will soon be served by the Piccadilly line and two Overground lines).

The line was scheduled to open alongside the Overground network, though this appears to have been scrapped, most likely because the Overground has taken longer to construct than anticipated.

The line makes some modernisations compared to its contemporaries; for one, it is, for the first time for an Underground line, dual-track, and for another, each station’s floor is given a unique tile pattern of glazed terracotta to make identifying each station easier and also to make the otherwise grey platforms look interesting. These innovations are expected to be used and further refined in the Victoria line.
